This guide will educate you on the Nigeria travel requirements and the visa applications for travelers having the Federal Republic of Nigeria in their bucket list.

Nigeria is a West African country which is the most populous country in Africa. It is geographically situated between the Sahel to the north and the Gulf of Guinea to the south in the Atlantic Ocean.

Nigeria is a multinational state inhabited by more than 250 ethnic groups speaking 500 distinct languages, all identifying with a wide variety of cultures. The three largest ethnic groups are the Hausa in the north, Yoruba in the west and Igbo in the east, together comprising over 60% of the total population.

The official language is English, chosen to facilitate linguistic unity at the national level. Nigeria’s constitution ensures freedom of religion and it is home to some of the world’s largest Muslim and Christian populations, simultaneously.

Nigeria Travel Restrictions

For fully vaccinated travelers

Fully vaccinated customers are no longer require to show a Covid-19 PCR test before departure or on arrival. Children below the age of 18 will also be treated the same as persons who are fully vaccinated. If you are fully vaccinated you are no longer required to do a Covid-19 test on arrival. You are also not required to self-isolate on arrival in Lagos.

Partial or Nonvaccinated travelers

All passengers who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated must be in possession of a negative Covid-19 PCR test result taken within 48 hours of departure. You must also take a Covid-19 PCR test on days 2 and 7 after arriving in Nigeria.

Passengers below the age of 18 are exempt from this requirement. Recommended PCR test for Nigeria  https://covid19.ncdc.gov.ng/advisory/. In line with government recommendations, NHS tests will not be accepted for travel.

Visa Requirements

All international travelers are required to obtain a visa before being granted entry into the Federal Republic of Nigeria, apart from the member countries from the ECOWAS who are exempted from the visa requirements.

The Nigerian government provides travel visas to foreign nationals who wants to travel to the country for tourism, transit and employment based purposes.

Tourism visa

Tourism Visa is a single entry visa issued for the purpose of tourism in Nigeria. The traveler with a tourism visa can stay for maximum of 3 months for pleasure without engaging in activities that would be paying them.

Eligibility

All foreign Nationals except citizens of ECOWAS Member State Cameroonians and Chadians and other countries with which Nigeria has entered into visa abolition/waiver agreements

Requirements

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months with at least 2 blank visa pages for endorsement
  • Two (2) recent passport sized (35x40mm) photographs
  • Return Ticket
  • Evidence of Sufficient funds
  • Evidence of hotel reservation/host address in Nigeria

Visa Validity

Valid for not more than 90 days from the date of issuance

How to Apply

Entry Visa/Freezone Guidelines:

  1. Visit the Home page of Nigeria Immigration Portal, locate & click on the appropriate application form to start the process.
  2. Entry Visa/Freezone Application Form
  3. Fill the Application form; check the ‘ I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS FORM ‘ check box.
  4. Click on ‘Submit Application’ button to view ‘Applicant details page’
  5. Click on “Proceed to Online Payment”
  6. Click to select Payment Currency “Pay in Dollars” option then Click on ‘Continue’ button. For Payment Outside of Nigeria; If you select a processing country other than Nigeria, your payment will be in US Dollars. You will be re-directed to an approved payment platform to complete your application and make your payment in US Dollars. The visa fees can be seen at the official immigration portal of the Nigerian Immigration.
  7. Please take your visa payment receipts, passport and other documents to the Nigerian Embassy in your Country of abode on your slated interview date for your Visa.

Tourist / Visitor Visa:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months
  • Completed visa application form
  • Two recent passport size photographs
  • A Letter of Invitation from a company/host in Nigeria accepting immigration responsibility
  • Visitors/Tourists are required to show evidence of sufficient funds
  • Nigeria Immigration Service Visa Payment Receipt and Visa Acknowledgement Receipt

Business Visa:

Temporary Residence Visas allow individuals reside in Nigeria for a period not exceeding two years.

With the above documentations, self-sponsored business men may not require a Letter of Invitation but will be required to show evidence of sufficient funds

Temporary Work Permit (TWP):

  • Passport with at least 6 months validity
  • Printed copy of completed application form for visitors pass
  • Two recent passport size photographs
  • Copy of the Letter of Approval from Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service

Subject to Regularization (STR):

  • Passport with at least 6 months validity
  • Completed visa form in quadruplicate with four recent passport photographs
  • Four copies of letter of Expatriate Quota Approval from Ministry of Interior
  • Four copies of credentials, certificates and curriculum vitae, all vetted by a relevant official of Nigerian High Commission/Embassy (English Certified translated copy where applicable)
  • Four copies of offer Letter of Employment
  • Four copies of Letter of Acceptance of employment, signed by expatriate
  • Nigeria Immigration Service Visa Payment Receipt and Visa Acknowledgement Receipt
