Ghana is blessed with numerous monuments and tourist attractions and one of the them is the Larabanga mosque.

Larabanga is an Islamic town situated in the northern part of Ghana specifically about 15 kilometers from Damongo. It is the home of the ancient and oldest mosque built over 600 years ago in Ghana and West Africa.

Historically, an Islamic trader while resting near a mystic stone in Larabanga, had a dream to construct a mosque at where he was resting. Awakening from his sleep, he was in shock and amazed to see the foundation of the building already constructed. He then continued till completion of the mosque.

The Larabanga Mosque is built with adobe in Sudanese architectural style with 26 feet height and 26 feet width. The mosque has suffered from wind and other natural phenomenon causing damages to the building. It was in this regard restorations and renovations were made to its current state.

Now, Larabanga mosque is used for religion activities such as grounds for Islamic pilgrimage which has been referred to as Mecca of West Africa, and also a site attraction for tourists.
