The lake which is a circular lake was caused by a meteor in volcanic impact a million years ago. It has steep sides surrounded by trees and hedges as Geographers claim.

Oral tradition also has it that, in 1648 a hunter by name Akora Bompe, was chasing an antelope on his game. Coming into contact with the anteleope, he shot it but the antelope tried to escape with the injury. The animal anyway proceeded with its run until it vanished into a little pond ahead.

The hunter who was amazed with what he had seen chose to remain alongside the pond and avoided his town of Asamang where he came from. He then, at that point, named the spot where the Antelope got vanished as “Bosomtwe” or ”Bosomtwi” which in English deciphers “Deity Antelope.” From his religious perspective, ha had a believe, that the antelope has been saved by the gods or the deity of that lake, hence the vanish.

In the Akan (twi) language, ‘’Bosom’’ is a god or deity and ‘’otwe’’ is an antelope hence the two syllabic Bosomtwe. The surrounding townships around the lake, considers lake Bosomtwe as a sacred site where many worship for protection and other spiritual fortifications.
