History of the Umbrella Rock
Rocks are formed through the cementing of molten materials, such as lava or magma, or through the process of metamorphism, where preexisting rocks are subjected to high temperatures and pressures, causing them to change into new types of rocks.
According to the natives of Yilo Krobo, the rock was discovered by a hunter who went hunting in the bush many decades ago and then returned to the town to bring his people to see the strange rock. Since then, Umbrella Rock has become a popular tourist destination in the Eastern Region.
It is believed that the Umbrella Rock is centuries old, and it continues to astound visitors who find it hard to comprehend how such a large, umbrella-shaped rock could balance on a smaller rock for so long without falling or the smaller rock wearing away.
Though by car which takes 15 minutes to reach, trekkers hike an hour from the Boti Waterfall through the trodden path or trail to the Umbrella Rock where there are hills to climb. Climbing the hills and taking beautiful pictures from natural views are the major things that visitors do.
